Hello!
I’m warmed by your greeting, although I not even a pre-op transsexual. I have a … not exactly a question but a topic in my head, and have been unsure where to discuss it. I hope you won’t find it offensive that I ask even though I don’t know you.
So here’s my thinking; when I was younger, and frustrated by all the limitations people placed on me as a ‘girl’, I wanted to be a boy because it would be easier in so many ways. When I started to become interested in sex I thought again about how much easier it would be to be male. But I had always dismissed the idea of transitioning, partly because I’m a bit squick about surgery, but mostly because… what I wanted was the societal recognition of personhood and autonomy that seemed to come with being male. Transitioning wouldn’t get me that recognition; it would seem to make me more of an outcast. So… my question, I suppose, is how transsexuals deal with that? I would like to know why people choose to transition even knowing that it will be difficult. I appreciate that you may not want to tell me or that the answer may be complicated but thankyou for listening anyway.
