Hi all

It's been a while since I posted anything concerning my own journey so with that in mind I have the following update to offer.

After a year of playing cleaning lady at a local hospital, I'm ready to take another stab at University. This time I'm aiming towards a 2-year effort in order to obtain a Bachelor of Social Work degree. I can transfer 30 units credit from my BA (double major in Sociology and History) in order to shorten the amount of time needed to obtain this new degree.

I'm also thinking of taking a stab at a Masters in Sociology but only if there's a job waiting at the end of it for me in a related field. The interesting thing in this regard is that the Dean of Graduate Studies for Sociology is also transgendered. He is the highly respected and imminently qualified, Dr. Aaron Devor:

I've sent him an email requesting a one-on-one meeting in order to solicit some advice as to possible educational/career direction. I'll post an update should he grant me some time.

And finally, I went and had all my transcripts updated to reflect my new gender and name including my previous degree in Soc/Hist.

I've already re-registered at the University and received a new student # along with a UVIC (University of Victoria) email addy.

I'll keep you all updated as events warrant.

Hey Sailormars, I remember you posting about getting your degree updated to reflect the new n' true, Angela. It feels great getting all that updated!

So the Dean got back to me and said he could see me early June (He's off to China on business before then). I told him June would be fine and emailed saying I'd contact him then.

Well, what happened next really floored me. His assistant emailed me on his behalf suggesting a specific date and time. But added the encouraging words... "You Go Girl!"

I thought, that's a bit informal for correspondence of this nature until I saw her name. It turns out the Dean's assistant is a woman I've known for well over 30 years! She's the ex- of one of my oldest friends and I most recently saw her in Feb at my 51st B'day party!

Anyways, it turns out her boss is the Dean of Graduate Studies for the entire University not just the Sociology dept.! She also wrote to me saying, in part: " The Dean doesn't see everyone you know "

So, I'm very happy and excited to get a chance to ask his advise about my educational options.

Never a dull moment , it seems

I had my original engineering degree changed back what seems like an eternity ago. HOWEVER, when I received my MBA it was already as Angela so I graduated as an already complete woman. Let me tell you, you will never forget that moment for the rest of your life. I say you go girl

Did you participate in convocation? You know, the ol' Cap n' Gown? And if so, did you wear a dress? Just curious, cause I know you'd have looked great!
